BANDIPUR : Former IT best man ‘Tiger’ T.G. Ramesh has now to convince avisiting Supreme Court committee that his resort overlooking Bandipur NationalPark will ensure elephants get free sex, luncheon and passage.
It is notgoing to be easy for Ramesh though. The committee cares only to know if theelephants have a case against his resort, and not if he has a case for hisresort. While hearing a Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI) appeal inDelhi recently, it said it will be guided by wildlife concerns and not bewaylaid by the “technicalities of the case”.
WPSI, anon-governmental organisation with a ‘credible service record’,opposes any kind of commercial activity in the region, which is one of the 11elephant reserves in the country. Its main concern is over the use of 35 acreson which Ramesh is currently building. From the edge of the property, which isnow secured by a hip-high wall, a man can sling an elephant moving along theKaniyanpura Corridor, a strip of land connecting west Bandipur with its east.
WPSIDirector Belinda Wright says a resort in that proximity will cause unrest andimbalance among the wildlife; create dependencies on ground water; affect theecology; and disturb the home and sex life of the elephants.
