The first tailor-made drug dapoxetine has been found beneficial to men with moderate to severe problems, reported the online edition of BBC News quoting Lancet magazine.
The study conducted by University of Minnesota researchers found taking the drug increases the average duration of sex from less than a minute to 3 minutes 19 seconds.
The studied men either received a placebo, 30mg of dapoxetine or 60mg of dapoxetine. On average, at the start of the study, the men ejaculated less than a minute after penetration.
After 12 weeks, that time extended to an average of one minute 45 seconds for those on the placebo, 2 minutes 47 seconds for those on 30mg dapoxetine, and 3 minutes 19 seconds for those on 60mg dapoxetine.
Dapoxetine also improved patients' perceptions of control over ejaculation, satisfaction with sexual intercourse, and overall impression of change in condition, said Dr Jon Pryor, lead author of the study.
