Heading into Mipcom with its biggest distribution slate to date, Canadian factual specialist Tricon Films and Television has sealed US deals for one-off doc Slut and factual reality series Restaurant Makeover.
The Food Network US has picked up seasons one (13x30') and two (13x60') of Restaurant Makeover, originally produced for Food Network and HGTV in Canada. The series, also being repped as a format, challenges two restaurant top guns to renovate, revamp and relaunch local restaurants, all inside a week.
The series is set to air on Food USA on October 25, and the Scripps-owned broadcaster has also taken an option to have Tricon produce additional episodes in the US.
Other broadcasters that have picked up Restaurant Makeover include How To Channel in Australia, Prime in New Zealand and Ana-ney in Israel. It has also been sold in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines through the Asian Food Channel.
Tricon recently wrapped up a deal with Sundance Channel in the US for Slut! (1x60'). CHUM-owned Sex TV in Canada has taken it for a debut at the end of October.
The one-off doc traces the origin of the word ‘slut' through the rigid Victorian era and into the 21st century, exploring how women have embraced their sexuality and how society has responded.
In other Tricon news, the Toronto producer/distributor is currently shooting Building Family (13x30') for HGTV Canada. A ‘weekly slice of life' reality series in the vein of American Chopper, it follows the relationships and business dealings inside a family-owned construction company.
Carrie Hall, Tricon's director of development and distribution, told C21 that the next step for the company is to focus on becoming a bigger player in the mobile entertainment arena. She said Tricon is currently using its partnership with OhmTV, looking to tap into the German company's growing catalogue and expertise with mobile content.
